Dressings

Zebra Medical markets the Centurion Dressings and IV Securement Devices to complement the catheters and access ports and needles.

 Information for Doctors and Nurses

The central venous catheter is among the most widely used IV devices on the market today. Access ports and PICC lines contribute to this category of devices needing specialised nursing care. The SorbaView window dressings are highly permeable, self-adhesive, transparent dressings that protect the catheter/port site.

SorbaView dressings have a multi-layered construction consisting of an absorbent, non-adherent pad that helps keep the catheter/port exit site dry by wicking away moisture from the skin to the fibrous pad, and then displacing it to the exterior non-woven fabric border. This highly absorbent pad material is fenestrated to form a "window" in the dressing and shaped with scalloped interior edges that increase the surface area of the pad. It also serves as a protective blanket under bulky catheters to make patients more comfortable whilst adding internal strength for applying and removal.

Second, a polyurethane film membrane covers the fenestrated pad. This thin, semi-permeable film is a strong protective barrier to external contaminants and liquids and is visually clear thus ideally suited for use in the care of IV sites. The adhesive, fenestrated, non-woven fabric layer completes the materials in this unique multi-layered dressing. This conformable outer border of fabric is ideal for protecting the exit site and securing access devices to patients' skin. The dressing is a blood barrier, viral and bacterial barrier, water proof and at the same time, transmits moisture vapour from the exit site.

Silversite Zonis Antimicrobial Access Site Dressing

Catheter-related infections can lead to extended hospital stays and greatly increased
treatment costs.
SilverSite Zonis delivers silver safely and directly to the catheter insertion site to reduce
bacterial colonization.

Silver is re-emerging as a preferred antimicronial in many infection control applications.
SilverSite Zonis's design combines the potency of silver with the advanced delivery properties of
alginate making it an ideal dressing to use with any vascular or non-vascular percutaneous
devices such as central venous catheters, PICC's, dialysis catheters, epidural catheters, chest
tubes and gastrostomy feeding tubes. The ionic silver inhibits bacterial growth under the dressing
while the foam material absorbs excess exudate. The darker side of the dressing is the active
silver alginate side, which contacts the skin when it is applied. The silver is in the form of a
molecule of silver alginate which is interspersed in a matrix of calcium alginate.

SilverSite Zonis kills bacteria and fungi with broad spectrum activity. It inhibits Gram (-) and gram (+)
organisms, including antibiotic resistant bacteria. It delivers sustained release of
antimicrobial activity for seven days while wicking moisture away from the site.

 Information for Patients

The SorbaView dressings are used in the treatment of central venous catheters, PICC lines, dialysis procedures, implanted access ports, epidural catheter securement and can be worn for at least 7 days. The dressing is waterproof allowing patients to shower, but allows moisture from under the dressing to pass through the film. They are easy to remove with minimal discomfort, being non-irritating, non-sensitizing and latex free.

SilverSite is an antimicrobial dressing with a polyurethane foam backing which can be worn for
seven days around any catheter. It can be worn for long periods of time because it continuously
prevents the build up of moisture from under the dressing. It is non-toxic, non-sensitising, does
not contain natural rubber latex and will not stain the skin. It is easy to apply and does not adhere
to the site making it comfortable to wear and gentle to remove.
